Arsenal have moved to revive a deal for Aston Villa defender Ezri Konsa, returning to discussions over a potential transfer.

Ben Jacobs understands that Arsenal are back at the table after seeing an initial approach of around £30 million turned down. The same report indicates Villa were swift to reject that proposal and would expect a considerably improved offer before contemplating a sale. It is also suggested Villa would prefer to keep the player.

State of play

There is no agreement in place and the situation remains at the talks stage. Any progress will hinge on whether Arsenal choose to substantially increase their offer and whether Villa’s stance softens.

The indications in the reporting are of a firm position from Villa and a need for Arsenal to test that resolve with a materially higher bid if they wish to advance negotiations. For now, the development points to revived dialogue rather than a breakthrough.

As ever at this point in the window, circumstances can evolve quickly, but the present picture is of resumed contact, a previously rejected proposal at roughly £30m, and a selling club that would need convincing.
