Champions League Prize Money 2026/27 Explained

A club’s Champions League income is built from an equal starting fee, match results, final league ranking, knockout progress and a variable value pillar.

There is no single prize cheque for entering the Champions League. UEFA’s 2026/27 distribution model separates the money into equal shares, performance-related amounts and a value pillar linked to market and historical factors.

UEFA Circular 48/2026 describes the figures as provisional and subject to final confirmation because the model is based on an assumed gross revenue threshold of €4.4 billion. The amounts below are therefore the official planning values, not guaranteed final receipts.

The overall 2026/27 distribution

UEFA projects €3.317 billion for clubs participating in the centralised phases of its men’s competitions. Of that, €2.467 billion is allocated to the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup. The Champions League play-off pot is €30 million, while the league phase onwards is based on €2.437 billion.

The league-phase pool is split into 27.5 per cent equal shares, 37.5 per cent performance-related amounts and 35 per cent for the value pillar.

The league-phase starting fee

Each of the 36 league-phase clubs can expect €18.62 million. UEFA splits that into an initial down-payment of €17.87 million and a balance of €750,000.

This is the base amount before a ball is kicked in the league phase. Qualifying and play-off payments sit under separate provisions.

Win and draw bonuses

Each league-phase win carries €2.1 million and each draw €700,000. The amount not distributed because a match ended level includes a further €700,000 that would have been paid for a win. UEFA reallocates those savings proportionally through the league-ranking mechanism.

The financial difference between turning a draw into a win is therefore immediate, but final ranking can add another layer of value.

How league ranking shares work

The ranking pool is divided into 666 shares, the sum of the numbers from one to 36. The initial value of each share is €275,000. The club finishing 36th receives one share, the club in 35th receives two and the league leader receives 36.

Unused draw money increases the eventual value of each share. In addition, clubs finishing first to eighth receive €2 million each, while positions nine to sixteen receive €1 million each.

Knockout stage payments

• Qualification for the knockout phase play-offs: €1 million per club
• Qualification for the round of 16: €11 million per club
• Qualification for the quarter-finals: €12.5 million per club
• Qualification for the semi-finals: €15 million per club
• Qualification for the final: €18.5 million per club
• Winning the final: an additional €6.5 million

The value pillar

The value pillar accounts for 35 per cent of the league-phase and knockout distribution base, projected at €853 million. It combines European and non-European components related to market value and club ranking factors under UEFA’s distribution methodology.

This is why two clubs with identical match results may not receive identical total revenue. Sporting payments can be calculated from results and progress, but the value pillar varies by club and market.

Why control in the league phase is financially valuable

The new format pays the result and the rank. A controlled final ten minutes can protect a €700,000 draw payment, but a winning goal is worth an extra €1.4 million in the direct match bonus and may improve the club’s ranking shares and route into the knockouts.

Midfield game management is therefore sporting first, yet its marginal financial consequences can be substantial across eight fixtures.
